CGLN opens trading at The London Stock Exchange

23 Jan 2024

The Clean Growth Leadership Network (CGLN) opened London Stock Exchange trading at an official Market Opening Ceremony this morning.

Network Director, Yulia Chekunaeva, led the ceremonial action, alongside LSEG CEO, Julia Hoggett and our distinguished guest, Lord Dominic Johnson, Minister of State for Investment and Regulatory Reform at The Department for Business and Trade.

Following the ceremony, we welcomed a larger audience for the hosting of three panel discussions, which looked at how we can supercharge the energy transition and revitalise industrial heartlands by securing an abundance of low cost, clean power for energy-intensive business.

The Minister set the scene for the day, highlighting the importance of bringing people together from across industries and disciplines to accelerate the transition, and in bolstering investment into clean technologies and solutions.

In the first full session of the day, Martin Bellamy (CGLN Co-Founder and Chairman of This is Gravity) brought together Simon Baldey (SVP of Operations at Agratas), Lauren Pamma (Director at The Green Finance Institute) and Martin Wood (Chief Advisor at OFI).

They discussed the announcement that Tata will build a gigafactory in the UK, what this means for the UK automotive industry, how to bolster investment to attract similar projects and the opportunity to grow business through emerging supply chains.

The second panel of the day was moderated by Joan MacNaughton, who was recently appointed as the new chair of the board at the CGLN.

Drawing from her vast experience within the energy sector, Joan convened Julia Pyke (Co-Managing Director of Sizewell C), Neil Kirby (Managing Director at SSE Enterprises) and Gabriele Martinelli (Head of European Power Research at LSEG Data and Analytics).

The group focused on how we can secure cost-effective, clean and reliable energy to power energy intensive industry - and how we can attract industry to the UK in doing so.

The final discussion of the day looked at how we can utilize financial instruments to fuel the transition, what new financial infrastructure is being created and the investment approaches contributing to the flow of capital into energy transition.

Moderated by Katya Gorbatiouk, Head of Investment Funds at The London Stock Exchange, the panel brought together Claire Dorrian (Head of Sustainable Finance Capital Markets & Post Trade, Capital Markets at LSEG), Minesh Shah (Managing Director at InfraRed Capital Partners) Michael Liebreich (Partner at EcoPragma Capital) and Nick Stansbury, Head of Climate Solutions at Legal & General Investment Management).

Commenting on the event as a whole, Yulia said: “The event was a resounding success, and fostered important connections between leading figures across industry, finance and policy - we are so grateful to the London Stock Exchange for partnering with us to deliver it."
