CGLN Director discusses new nuclear technologies with Maurits Dolmans ahead of conference

If we are to learn anything from the war in Ukraine, it must be that we can’t remain strategically dependent on supplies from unstable regions or unreliable sources. We need a carbon-neutral, safe energy source that can provide baseload electricity when renewables are unavailable, and that can carry peak loads when demand is at its highest – and we need it to be competitively priced.

Ahead of the World Nuclear Symposium, we at the CGLN are delighted to be partnering with international law firm, Cleary Gottlieb, to host a one-day conference looking into the role that nuclear technologies can play in solving the climate crisis.

In anticipation of the event, CGLN Director Yulia Chekunaeva sat down with Maurits Dolmans, CGLN Fellow and Partner at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and to outline why we are putting together this event and to begin to discuss the role that new nuclear technology can play in solving the climate crisis and providing much needed energy security.

Yulia and Maurits discussed the key benefits of new nuclear technologies, where they fit in terms of other energy solutions and the need for various stakeholders to better cooperate to deliver nuclear as a solution.

Our hybrid conference, ‘Solving the climate and energy security crises: what role can new nuclear technologies play’ will take place on 6th September 2022 virtually and at Cleary Gottlieb’s London Office.

In-person spaces are limited and by invitation only.
